Welcome To Kindred Shared Living!

We provide comfortable, safe, affordable housing for adults and seniors who could benefit from living amongst their peers.

Our Mission

Kindred Shared Living’s mission is to provide affordable, safe, clean, and comfortably appointed housing for aging individuals and other adult demographics who are housing challenged. Many seniors are struggling with financial stress, emotional needs, family conflicts, abandonment, and/or safety concerns that the individual cannot resolve alone..
Because we believe that a safe, affordable living environment should be a fundamental human right, we are committed to creating housing solutions grounded in respect for individuals and for our communities. We will do this in an inclusive, shared-living space where support, kindness and bonding are highly encouraged.

Our Why...

Kindred Shared Living was born out of the desire to make a real difference in the lives of vulnerable seniors in our communities. As social beings, we naturally crave positive interaction. Without it, some of us are left feeling neglected, isolated and unsupported, leading to increased health risks such as depression, high blood pressure, heart disease, and sometimes even substance abuse.

We have personally witnessed seniors living under fear and pressure. Being taken advantage of by their own loved ones. Having their money stolen from them each month. Not having much to eat. Choosing between rent, food, medication and utility bills. It is just heartbreaking.

It is our hope to help those affected by isolation and/or low income. Know that our shared-living model will instill a sense of comfort, security, community, and well-being for all of our guests.

LIFE IN OUR HOMES

We at Kindred Shared Living understand the stress that comes with affording and keeping up with a home's expenses, therefore WE maintain the mortgage and utilities so that you can relax.

Our homes are comfortably furnished. Bedrooms are usually shared unless the room can only accommodate 1 bed. Living rooms and bedrooms have flat screen tv’s with basic cable and Netflix. We provide board games, dominos, card games, puzzles, cookbooks, etc. to foster camaraderie and a sense of family among our guests. A rotating selection of books are available in most homes for those who enjoy reading. We also encourage regular interactions through movie nights, birthday and holiday celebrations, and cooperative meal preparations.

We do not provide food, therefore we encourage guests to work together to meal plan and combine their food budget to share meals, if they wish.

Safety

Safety, comfortability, and security are always paramount, and they not only apply to the security cameras, but will be created by the house rules and the temperament of our guests. We do not randomly choose our guests. We do all we can to thoroughly vet and carefully select each resident before placing them in our homes. Individualized risk assessments are done on each potential guest via background checks and information gathered from applications and interviews.

We believe that everyone should feel comfortable where they reside and we know that a bad attitude by just one person in a home can cause fear, nervousness, feelings of isolation and despair in those around them, which we can not accept. Ideally, we would prefer every resident have integrity, be kind, caring, even-tempered and share our desire to create a home that fosters bonding, friendships, and a sense of family.

It is our hope that our shared-living model will instill pride and well-being for all of our guests, as we envision our homes to be a space of peace, kindness, and personal growth…a place where our guests can relax and exhale.

This is our brand.

ARE WE A GOOD FIT?

Ask yourself these questions to determine if we are the right fit for you:

CAN I UNDERSTAND AND FOLLOW BASIC HOUSE GUIDELINES AND SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS?

Following house guidelines and safety instructions ensures structure so you will know what to do in emergency situations and there is no one attempting to rule the house other than management.

CAN I GET AROUND FREELY, WITHOUT A WHEELCHAIR?

Many of our properties have stairs, however, if you are in need of a handicap accessible home, we encourage you to fill out an Intake Form and let us know. We may be able to provide what you need or know of someone who can.

AM I CAPABLE OF SELF-CARE?

Our homes are set up to provide independent living. We do not assist with walking, we do not administer medication, we do not help with bathing or feeding. Our guests must be able to take care of him/her self.

CAN I PREPARE MY OWN MEALS?

There is no guarantee that another resident will offer to cook for the house (although, it would be wonderful), so you must be able to prepare your own meals.

AM I EASY TO GET ALONG WITH?

Peaceful living is a huge part of the Kindred Shared Living brand. We expect our guests to make a serious effort to get along with one another, therefore, we will not tolerate any form of aggression.

AM I OPEN TO SHARING A BEDROOM?

Most of our bedrooms are semi-private (shared by 2) but may be equipped with privacy options.

Affordability

The average cost of a typical living facility in the U.S. is $4500 per month. Although the cost in PA can be a little less which averages out to be $3400 per month, it is too high for many and still forces a disproportionate amount of mature adults in our communities to struggle in place, alone, and sometimes afraid. Even some who receive government assistance find it is rarely enough to cover the costs of safe, proper, and dignified living.

As a Kindred Shared Living guest, you only need to bring your clothing and leave the rest to us!

We purchase the home.

We furnish the home.

We provide initial supplies (bed & bath linens, kitchenware & cleaning supplies)

We also cover utilities, a landline phone, basic cable with Netflix, and wi-fi!

We do not cover food, personal supplies, nor your personal bills/expenses.
